"Reversals of Fortune"

The UES gang goes to the Vanderbilt Charity Polo Match.

In the Season 3 premiere of Gossip Girl, the summer is drawing to a close and Blair and Chuck are madly in love. As they adjust to their new “in a relationship” status, they break all the traditional rules of dating—as expected. Serena returns from her European adventure with a complicated relationship with Carter Baizen, paparazzi in tow, and many secrets to hide. Nate gets back from his own travels with a mysterious brunette named Bree, who turns out to be part of the Vanderbilt's rival political family: the Buckleys. The Humphrey clan heads back to NYC after spending a relaxing summer in the Hamptons (thanks to the Van der Woodsens), and Rufus is left in charge of Serena and Eric while their mother is away caring for an ailing CeCe. In the meantime, things heat up between Scott, Rufus and Lily's love child, and Vanessa.

"The Freshmen"

Blair starts college at NYU.

Two questions: Is NYU ready for Blair? Is Blair ready for NYU? Queen B is determined to maintain her regal status in college as she embarks on her first day at New York University. Unfortunately, Georgina, who pops up as Blair's roommate, is subtly set on turning Blair into a social outcast. Ah, Georgina, up to her usual diabolical tricks… As Serena waffles over going to Brown, she and Chuck have a big-time falling out and she recruits Chuck's nemesis, Carter Baizen, to help her get even. Meanwhile, Nate and Bree decide to explore their relationship even though they know it could cause tension between their well-to-do families who are longtime political rivals.

In this episode, it's an Upper East Side face-off when Blair and Chuck both set their sights on a particular item up for bid at Sotheby's and the personal stakes are high. Serena suspects Carter may be up to his old habits, while Georgina takes an interest in Dan. Apparently no one can have stable relationships in this town. Lastly, Vanessa begins to have some suspicions that something isn't quite right with new guy Scott. Took you long enough, V.

It’s the first day of school at Constance Billard which means it’s also time for Jenny to take her rightful place as the new Queen Bee. Unfortunately for Jenny, Blair is more than happy to intervene when news reaches her that she may be needed back at Constance. Lily returns home to Rufus and her family to find that things are definitely not as she left them. A famous movie actress, Olivia Burke, enrolls at NYU – and is assigned to be Vanessa’s roommate – hoping for a somewhat normal college experience. Tyra Banks guest stars as Ursula, an actress co-starring in Olivia’s movie and someone who Serena befriends.

Looking for publicity for his new hotel, Chuck moves his club's opening and convinces Serena to assist him in getting the word out. Feeling left out, Blair tries to win Chuck's approval by secretly helping him with a problem concerning the opening night. Meanwhile, Dan gets nervous after watching one of Olivia's infamous sex scenes with her co-star and real-life boyfriend during that time, Patrick Robinson. Jenny is forced to choose between Eric and her new role as Queen Bee, which as a result causes major conflict between the two characters.

Dan and Olivia sign up to write and star in an NYU play, based on an idea by Blair and directed by Vanessa. Meanwhile, Serena turns to Nate for help in a dificult situation, now that Blair is not there. As a favor to Chuck, Jenny agrees to hang out with Damien, an ambassador's son staying in Chuck's hotel, and the experience turned out to be more intriguing than what she thought.

It wouldn’t be Thanksgiving on the Upper East Side if there wasn’t a serving or two of some major drama for the holiday. Blair suspects her mom has been keeping a big secret from her, but it turns out to be something else entirely. Vanessa is supposed to spend Thanksgiving with her parents, but has a fight with her mom and shows up on Dan’s doorstep. Rufus learns that Lily has been lying to him about her mother, Cece. Chuck tells Nate that he has some potentially damaging information about one of their friends. Jenny learns that Eric was behind her very public embarrassment at Cotillion and can’t pass up a chance to get even. Serena is put in a very awkward position when her mother invites Trip and Maureen to join them for Thanksgiving dinner.

Sounds like a placeholder ep — nary a car crash or dirty affair in sight. On the bright side maybe it'll turn out to be the episode where Chuck says "I think that whore may be my mother," and makes mother sound like a worse insult than whore. We're looking forward to that.
